Coaching with Creativity and Compassion

What exactly is coaching?

In our work, we see it as coaching and counseling. The goal is to support people in making informed decisions about their career development and direction as well as offer various tools that they can use to meet those goals. In general, “coaching" tends to be a solution-oriented approach, which involves working with clients to see what concrete steps they can take to achieve career objectives. “Counseling,” however, is more process-driven — a process led by listening with empathy and not judgment. The way we look at it, though we are not medical professionals, is that there are often behavioral, emotional, and psychological issues that are taken into consideration in our coaching. Our goal is to help professional women find clarity and assess their situations with a greater degree of honesty, curiosity, empathy, and compassion.

Q: At what point in a person's professional life is coaching likely to be most useful?

A: While I believe that coaching can be helpful at every point of someone's professional path, I would say that good coaching early-to-mid-career can put people on more solid footing with a growth mindset that helps them understand the path of today is not the same as it may have been in the past.

Q: What is a common misconception about career coaching?

A: People believe they don't need a coach because they believe they can do all on their own. I know because I was one of those people. What I came to learn was that if I could do on my own, I would have done it a long time ago. It was at the point I got a coach. Once I got a coach, I was finally able to more forward with my career.

Q : Why coaching?

A: High achieving women feel like it’s all or nothing (ask me how I know). It’s either they keep their success or they take care of their needs and wants. It’s not their fault. That’s the model they’ve been taught. But there’s another way to achieve that balance - to have your success and fulfill your needs too. And, by the way, we’re talking small changes that pay big dividends. This isn’t about blowing up your life. It’s about finding space for yourself in it. That’s the power of coaching.

Q: Are there certain career frustrations that you hear most often from clients?

A: The biggest career complaint I hear from my clients is that they do not have the opportunity to grow and develop within their current organization. When employees do not receive promotions or training opportunities they tend to become stagnant and bored. Ultimately, limiting beliefs kick in because they are not being utilized and valued at their full potential.

I’ve had the wonderful pleasure of working with Coach, Holly Caplan recently. As a professional coach myself, I was a little apprehensive about hiring her to coach me. What could she really do for me? Well, I have to say, it was one of the best decisions I‘ve every made.

Holly is extremely passionate about helping others discover their strengths and development into the whole person they strive to be.
