About the Book…

In the spirit of The Orphan Train and Before We Were Yours, a historical debut about a nurse who chooses to save a baby's life, and risks her own in the process, exploring the ties of motherhood and the little-known history of Coney Island and America's first incubators.

A nurse's choice. A daughter's search for answers.

New York City, 1926. Nurse Althea Anderson's heart is near breaking when she witnesses another premature baby die at Bellevue Hospital. So when she reads an article detailing the amazing survival rates of babies treated in incubators in an exhibit at Luna Park, Coney Island, it feels like the miracle she has been searching for. But the doctors at Bellevue dismiss Althea and this unconventional medicine, forcing her to make a choice between a baby's life and the doctors' wishes that will change everything.

Twenty-five years later, Stella Wright is falling apart. Her mother has just passed, she quit a job she loves, and her marriage is struggling. Then she discovers a letter that brings into question everything she knew about her mother and everything she knows about herself.

The Light of Luna Park is a tale of courage and an ode to the sacrificial love of mothers.

Wonder Woman in Business, Tatia Gordon-Troy

Tatia Gordon-Troy

Tatia L. Gordon-Troy uses the hashtag, #behindthebook, because she has been the brains behind hundreds of books written by attorneys during her 30-year career as an editor, writer, and publisher. As the former head of publishing for the American Immigration Lawyers Association where she was responsible for a $4 million annual budget, Tatia was instrumental in transforming many attorneys into successful authors and thought leaders. For the past six years, she has continued to work with attorneys and other professionals to independently publish their work and leverage their expertise to better market themselves and their practices while attracting high-end clientele. She also works closely with small associations to strategically approach ways to build non-dues revenue using content and teaching how to repurpose, reuse, and recycle content to increase member outreach.

Because traditional publishing is restrictive and slow-moving, Tatia was drawn to the flexibility and excitement surrounding the world of independent publishing, which has given her the opportunity to learn, experiment, and lend her publishing expertise to a number of independent publishing clients to ensure the quality and professional presentation of their work.

Tatia is a creative yet analytical thinker, able to use both sides of her brain to accomplish her clients’ goals. She’s been known to breathe new life into stagnant and faltering publications, to create new ones with new perspectives. She refers to herself as a grinder because, “I roll up my sleeves and get sh*t done.” Tatia is skilled at seeing a need, a niche, or an opportunity for enhancement or creation of a new product or service to support audiences and drive new revenue sources.

After becoming a victim of downsizing at the age of 49, Tatia was determined to not stay a victim for long. Unfortunately, Tatia’s mother was suffering from dementia and in need of her attention as well. Her decision to start a business rather than jump back into the rat race stemmed from necessity and a desire to be her own boss. She brokered an outsourcing deal with her then-former employer and the rest is history. For three years, her family never knew she had been separated from her job—that’s how determined Tatia was to make her business work and to keep the bills paid.

Tatia is an accomplished writer with a background in TV and print journalism. She’s ghostwritten for attorneys, a congressman, and several association presidents. She is quite proud of some of her most recent writing projects, which were sample research papers she wrote during the pandemic to help college students improve their writing skills.

Tatia is a Maryland attorney, an experienced and prolific writer, and an award-winning editor who is passionate about good writing and making people sound better than they ever thought they could. What author wouldn’t want that? She is the CEO of her own publishing consultancy and author services company, Ramses House Publishing LLC, visit www.publishingforlawyers.com. #Networked

If Giovanni Boccoccio Zoomed into 2020, was a lawyer instead of a writer, and spent copious amounts of time writing posts on LinkedIn rather than writing Italian Renaissance literature, The Decameron may have looked a lot different. Replace the bucolic Florentine countryside with a fast-paced social networking site, the ten carefree Italian youths with fifty ambitious, hard-charging women lawyers, and The Decameron may look a lot like #Networked, the first book of its kind to emerge from the COVID-19 global pandemic.#Networked is the much anticipated 20-chapter anthology written by 20 women lawyers who met through a networking group on LinkedIn in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Much like the framework of the Decameron, each chapter in #Networked is written by one woman describing both her individual and collective experience and role within the group. The women’s stories touch upon many of Boccaccio’s universal themes of the human condition: human will, love, virtue, and societal tension. Make no mistake, not all themes in #Networked transcend time, this is a modern anthology. The protagonists are all very much entrenched in 2020 with plenty of emphasis given to careers, work-life balance, and the best lighting for virtual calls. The multi-dimensional characters also dig deep conquering topics such as infertility, addiction, allyship, feminism, and mental health. Their stories are familiar. They are the stories of thousands of other professional women living during this era. They serve as inspiration and offer hope that the pandemic wasn’t a time of destruction at all, but rather a time of opportunity and growth. As one of the authors wrote “It was the birth of a whole new me, or rather a whole new we.”

Wonder Woman in Business, Dr. Alauna Curry a.k.a. "Dr. Alauna"

Dr.+Alauna+Headshot+3.jpg

Dr. Alauna Curry, MD

In her own words…

I’m Dr. Alauna Curry and I want you to know, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. In fact, you are far from alone; we are all connected in trauma. Through this site, I hope to offer you an effective path to emotional, psychological, and spiritual healing. As a Board-Certified Psychiatrist, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of complex psychological trauma and related mental health conditions, I have diagnosed and provided intensive trauma treatment for US Military veterans for the last 12 years.

After years of studying and teaching the most evidence-based trauma treatment interventions currently available, I began to recognize that psychological trauma was present at the core of any mental illness. Whether you realize it or not, you and someone you know is experiencing the debilitating and life-altering impact of individual and collective trauma. Once I understood the predictable patterns of thoughts and behavior, and the impact of traumatic experiences on a few specific brain systems, it becomes clear that these numbers significantly underestimate the prevalence of trauma. Trauma has a 100% prevalence rate.

Well that’s pretty depressing, right? Well, yes and no! Because this is an opportunity to get rid of the stigma of trauma once and for all! What is the point of feeling shame for experiencing something that every person is experiencing, and feeling alone in, simply because we are too ashamed to share our stories and reshape them in a healthy way! This is where empathy, specifically having the mental skills to look at any situation from the differing yet equal perspective of another Creator, combined with a deeper knowledge of our brain’s design, can free us from the oppressive, judgmental, and traumatic beliefs about ourselves that keep us stuck in a mindset that continues to recreate our most painful experiences.

My hope today is that this transformative information will trigger an 'Empathy evolution’ in healthcare and beyond and a catalyst for a healthier, peaceful human species on Earth. Welcome, let’s get to work. The path to trauma healing is Empathy Skills Practice™ and the work begins here.
