Breen Sullivan

Breen Sullivan is the Founder of The Fourth Floor, an innovative ecosystem reimagining the board room, investment, and how we support female entrepreneurship. Women have a hard time getting board seats and they also have a hard time raising money to scale their companies. To solve for this, the Fourth Floor brings female founders and professionals together to increase the number of women on boards, be more competitive fundraisers, and create wealth for entrepreneurs and investors.

Breen is a C-Suite executive with concentrated experience in operations, commercial contracting, human resources and employment matters; organization, corporate and deal strategy; Board of Director communications and responsibilities; privacy and risk management; financial matters, and occasionally novel challenges. As a career general counsel, Breen has worked with startup and high-growth companies for nearly a decade, specializing in technology, SaaS, energy efficiency, and data science.

Breen and The Fourth Floor have been featured by Forbes, Corporate Counsel Magazine, Law.com, The American Lawyer, Above The Law, Women On The Record Podcast, and Her CEO Journey: The Business Finance Podcast for Women Entrepreneurs. Meade Hartfield has represented clients nationwide in a variety of industries, including financial services, drug and medical device, automotive, aviation, industrial equipment, insurance, and environmental. Her financial services practice includes representing financial institutions, auto-finance lenders and mortgage companies in defensive litigation matters throughout the country, including alleged violations of TCPA, TILA, FCRA, FDCPA and state deceptive trade practices laws. She also spearheads regulatory compliance services in response to pending or new legislation.

Meade has been admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. She is an active member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), where she serves as Seminar Chair of the Women in the Law Committee, as well as the Women in the Law Liaison to the International Law Committee and the Automotive Section of the Product Liability Committee. Meade also is serving as the inaugural chair of Women in the Law Committee for the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association.

Sonia Zeledon is the Director, Associate General Counsel, Ethics, Head of Compliance and Data Privacy, for The Hershey Company.  Previously, she held various positions at Nokia Corporations and worked at several Amlaw 10 law firms.  

Ms. Zeledon serves on The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Executive Committee as General Counsel.  She is a frequent speaker on compliance and privacy, including the biases in technologies such as AI. She earned a B.A. in Economics and Math from Wellesley College; she also holds a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law.

Rachel Barner is a global Business Executive, Corporate Counsel and experienced Board Member who brings the powerful combination of international perspective, legal expertise, strategic vision and financial acumen. A trusted advisor to and partner of top management and boards of directors, Rachel is valued for advice and guidance in enterprise risk, corporate solutions and global ethics.

As Executive Vice President, Managing Chief Counsel and Global Ethics Officer for Jones Lang LaSalle Americas, Inc., a financial and professional services firm specializing in commercial real estate services and investment management, Rachel advises and counsels senior management on all aspects of employment law and corporate litigation. She is relied on to evaluate business risks relating to commercial disputes, and she partners with business teams to reach operational objectives. As manager of a team of legal and non-legal professionals, she develops and manages the firm’s global ethics and compliance program, including strategy development, investigations and compliance enforcement, focusing on North and South Americas as well as Asia Pacific. She creates and conducts internal training and information sessions on topics such as ethics, harassment/discrimination, union avoidance and management, and operational compliance issues such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. In addition, she reviews/drafts client and third-party contracts related to employment relationships, coordinates response and strategy relating to external disputes and manages outside counsel on litigation matters. Earlier positions at the firm include Global General Counsel, Corporate Solutions Compliance and Executive Vice President, Chief Litigation Counsel & Global Ethics Officer.

Rachel also has served as an Associate Attorney for Littler Mendelson, P.C.; Vedder, Price, Kaufman & Kammholz, L.L.P.; and Seyfarth Shaw, L.L.P all based out of Chicago. She was a Law Clerk for the Honorable William J. Bauer in the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, and for the City Colleges of Chicago, Office of the General Counsel.

Earlier in her career, Rachel was a Human Resources Consultant for Coopers & Lybrand, L.L.P., Human Resources Advisory Group, and a Management Consultant for Andersen Consulting, L.L.P. (Accenture). During college, she worked for the Chicago Park District as a Sailing Instructor through the Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Program for paraplegic, quadriplegic and other clients with disabilities.

Rachel has extensive board experience, including serving as the Board Secretary and founding member for Jones Lang LaSalle Americas, Inc.’s Global Environment and Sustainability Board. Responsibilities include developing internal company policy, assessing global energy and sustainability capabilities, identifying strategy for providing external business services to clients, developing internal environmental and energy-saving practices, and advising the global CEO and other senior management on compliance and other legal issues. She also was a Member of the University of Chicago Alumni Board & Chairperson of its By- Laws Committee, Member of the Lincoln Park Zoo Auxiliary Board and Member of the Lookingglass Theatre Associates Board. Currently, she is an active board member for Comer Children’s Hospital of The University of Chicago.

Rachel has been admitted to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Illinois, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the United States District Court for Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois, Eastern District of Wisconsin, Western District of Michigan and Northern District of Indiana. She also is an active member of the Economic Club of Chicago.

She earned her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif (honor society – Top 10% of class) and served as Editor of the Law Review and was a published author. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Linguistical Anthropology from the University of Chicago, where she was a member of the Dean’s List, graduated with Academic Honors and was part of the Swimming/Diving Team.

When not working, Rachel and her husband enjoy showing the world to their 10-year-old son. She also is a competitive sailboat racer, long-distance road cyclist and whitewater kayaker.

Melissa Jones

Managing Partner

Melissa Jones is a trial lawyer who provides experienced and practical counsel in complex business disputes, appellate matters and internal investigations. She has represented clients from a broad range of industries in complex civil litigation matters in both state and federal court, including the agribusiness, and oil and gas industries. Her practice includes an emphasis on Proposition 65 defense as well. Additionally, Melissa has held various leadership roles at the firm. She is the Firm Managing Partner and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. Melissa is a former office managing partner for the firm’s three California offices and also recently served as the chair of the Partner Compensation Committee.

Melissa’s experience includes litigating claims for breach of contract, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, misappropriation of trade secrets, product liability, false advertising, and unfair competition. She has worked on internal investigations for both publicly traded and private companies on complex compliance and accounting issues and has represented companies in government enforcement actions, including matters involving the California Attorney General’s office and the Air Resources Board.

Melissa regularly defends companies in litigation claims related to California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act (Proposition 65) and Unfair Competition Law (17200) and advises companies on Prop 65 compliance. She leads the Firm’s Prop 65 defense and compliance team. Her Prop 65 clients range from large retailers to vendors and manufacturers, in industries including apparel, footwear, handbags, eyewear, fitness products, children’s products, furniture, electronics, hobby and crafts, automotive, personal care products and accessories, food and dietary supplements and natural foods. She has defended Prop 65 actions and advised clients in matters regarding listed chemicals including lead, Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates (BBP, DBP, DINP, DIDP, and DEHP), carbon monoxide, cadmium, 4-MEI, crystalline silica, acrylamide, arsenic, trisphosphate (TDCPP, TCEP), Diethanolamine and Cocomide-DEA. She also advises clients on other California regulations.

Before joining Stoel Rives, Melissa was a litigation partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP, where she worked for 10 years. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Harry Pregerson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

She has been an active member of the legal community, serving as President to the Sacramento Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, as a Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, the Chair of the Eastern District Conference, a Board Member for Women Lawyers of Sacramento, and as a member of the Eastern District’s Judicial Advisory Committee.
